Rollag historical farmstead

Rollag historical farmstead

Bygdetunet in Rollag is located in scenic surroundings close to Rollag Stave Church and Rollag rectory. The museum was built as an open air museum for the municipality and work began in 1960. The farmstead consists of 14 buildings around a wide courtyard that is typical of the architectural tradition in this part of the valley. The buildings are moved from farms in Rollag. The collections consist of over 1,000 objects that show daily life in the village.

The Toenstugu building is open during the winter, and is used for meetings and cultural events.

The Rostadstugu building is decorated with some of the most important works of the "Kongsberg painter" who had great influence on the local decorative painters (rosemaling) in the village.

The area around the farmstead is great for hiking trips, and several of the old tracks between the rectory and the small farms are cleared and marked. The proximity to Trillemarka-Rollagsfjell Nature Reserve, also provides many excellent hiking, with its many fine fishing lakes and beautiful nature. Norway’s oldest spruce tree grows here. If you walk across the old suspension bridge, you will find walking trails to the local sport school and trails along the river Lågen to Holman Camping.

Activity days are held every Saturday in July in cooperation with local clubs and associations. There are various activities and traditional foods are for sale. The open air museum is open for visitors and tour with guide can be arranged. Coffee, ice cream and waffles / cakes for sale.

Rollag Bygdetun is a great place to visit in the summer!
